In the very fabric you are made of, the integrity of the fibres supporting habitual somatic structures make up an internal system frame, built with a myriad of multi-dimensional connective factors. Along the grains (X and Y axis), is the stability and anchors, while the bias (Z-axis) has the maximum flexibility. Through this systems origo directions can exist.

(A GAR)MENT (idea growth lab), 2015-

Some ideas are no longer superficial when you live with them for a long time. They sink into your skin, meeting what already exists in you, and becomes metaphysical. Morphing with your biology, more dimensions open up, and it becomes part of your modus operandi, your habit of operating. Then you no longer know what comes from outside or inside, which direction the ideas flow, if the idea became you or you became it.

Perfume making is a gathering point between science and art, first explored by alchemists a long long time ago. Perfumes are, still, composed like an orchestra music piece. The top notes are the first impression, while the heart and base notes are the theme of the perfume. The most volatile of molecules quickly evaporate as silky ribbons of scent, while animalic and musk notes can linger on the skins surface for over 24 hours.

Habitual patterns of spatial presence expresses our modes of inhabiting a four dimensional world. Over time, the structural relationship between the fabric you are made of and the movements of your mind and body manifests itself in various somatic structures. Imagining what these physical and mental patterns look like as garment pattern pieces, translates aspects of a persona into something tangible.

Cold enfleurage is an ancient French method from Grasse, for extracting essential oils from flowers for use in for example perfumes. It is the most laborious method, and therefore only used for the flowers that require special treatment. In the cult classic book Perfume written by Patrick Süskind, Grenouille who has an exceptional sense of smell uses this method to extract the scent of his victims for his perfume.

“Legend had it that an amphora was found in a pharaoh´s tomb, and when it was opened, a perfume was released, after all those thousands of years, a perfume of such subtle beauty, and yet such power, that for one single moment every person on earth believed they were in paradise. 12 essences could be identified, but the 13th, the vital one, could never be determined. - Guiseppe Baldini”

Excerpt from Perfume, by Patrick Süskind

A moodboard for the Signature garment collection, organized as perfume notes. These early memories are base notes for the alchemical approach to translate or transform myself. The heart notes shape the pattern structure of the garments, forming the building blocks. The top surface textures and colours accentuate the constructs beneath and are enhanced by the architectural integrity of the garments.
